The project involves the addition of a new gym, locker rooms, a weight room, offices and a large multi-purpose room. It also involves the renovation of the existing Center and construction of a new entry element at the terminus of the street to the south.
The Phase II Additions to the Northeast Family YMCA increased the size of the facility by 20% and added much-needed area to this very popular complex.
The Center provides a gymnasium and a large multipurpose room that comprise two large volumes of the building. These volumes are connected on the west side of the building by a long glass lobby that has views of the Zoo and the surrounding landscape.
The Fairdale Clinic and Neighborhood Place is an innovative idea in community services that combines a County Health Clinic and a neighborhood Place for various federal, state and local social services into one building. It required cooperation and input from a variety of agencies and user groups, and was funded through a Community Development Block Grant.
The exterior appearance of the additions, which added over 50% to the size of the facility, were designed to compliment the appearance of the original building in a manner that makes it difficult to distinguish what was original and what is new.
Additions and renovations designed more than tripled the area of the building. A full-sized gym, new locker rooms, an aerobics room, and a wellness center/weight room & chapel were added.
