Carter DuValle Education Center
Jefferson County Public Schools
Louisville, Kentucky
As a part of the Park DuValle neighborhood revitalization, this project renovated and added onto an existing school building. The facility was programmed to combine four distinct entities: an elementary school, an adult education center, a child care center, and a Neighborhood Place/UJIMA (social services). The Master Plan had to account for keeping these entities separate and secure.
Carter DuValle Education Center was honored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a Historic School Success Story, and by the KnowledgeWorks Foundation as a successful “Schools as Centers of Communities”.
