Derby City Community Center
Louisville, Kentucky
The Center provides a gymnasium and a large multipurpose room that comprise two large volumes of the building. These volumes are connected on the west side of the building by a long glass lobby that has views of the Zoo and the surrounding landscape. The office extends slightly into the lobby and provides supervision over the entire gym and lobby area. Exterior building materials include large volumes of brick with smaller areas of metal panels and glass with aluminum framing. Similarly, the large areas of neutrally colored masonry on both the interior and exterior are balanced with smaller areas of bright colors.
